Death and disablement

CrewSecure delivers peace of mind to the employers of seafarers internationally and to the members themselves with a range of personal insurance covers for death or disability.

The Maritime Labour Convention 2006 provides that seafarers are entitled to compensation in the event of death or long term disability due to an occupational injury, illness or hazard as set out in national law, the seafarer’s employment agreement or collective agreement and for which financial security must be in place. CrewSecure Death & Dismemberment insurance plans are specifically designed to meet these requirements as a minimum, and to meet clients’ expectations beyond these legal requirements based on social standards set by and for them.

As a standard the insurance plans include payment for accidental death and dismemberment but they can also cover illness related death.
The Death & Dismemberment benefit is based on a fixed Sum Insured or as a multiple of salary. The Sum Insured can range from as little as a few thousand USD to USD 1,000,000 or more. In case of death of the member, the Sum Insured is paid in full to the beneficiaries. In case of dismemberment, a percentage of the Sum insured is paid to the member as it is set in a compensation scale in the policy.

CrewSecure works with several Insurance Companies which allows us to meet the specific needs of each client depending on its country of registration, its activity, the nationalities of the seafarers and any legal requirement applicable.

CrewSecure pay close attention to providing the best administration support and efficient claims management.
